Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a mid-level scientist to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Northwest Fisheries Science Center, in Newport, OR.

 

This position will be responsible to assist with analysis of images collected from towed vehicles and autonomous underwater vehicles. Software will be available to assist in the analysis. Both fish and benthic invertebrates will be identified and in some cases measured. The incumbent will assist with analysis and summarization of data including conducting simple statistical and graphical analyses. The incumbent may be asked to assist with preparation and maintenance of equipment that will be used at sea and may be asked to attend research cruises for up to 15 days.

 

The salary is commensurate with qualifications required. The contract is for full-time work, 40hrs/week. Assist NMFS with duties related to Groundfish Survey Support by:

  • Conducting analysis of underwater images
  • Completing data summarization
  • Assisting with preparation for research cruises
  • Attending research cruises for up to 15 days total
  • Travelling to locations to meet ship in order to participate on research cruises
  • Coordinating identifications of fish and invertebrates with other technical experts
