Biological Science Technician w/ NPS – Astoria, OR

Incumbent will lead field crews at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park on revegetation projects and exotic vegetation control in wetland, upland forest, and coastal prairie habitats.   Incumbent will instruct other members of the field crew in exotic and native plant identification and proper techniques.   Incumbent will ensure the crew is performing their job in a safe manner and provide first aid when necessary.   Duties include manually removing exotic vegetation; properly mixing and applying pesticides; seeding or planting native plants in areas to be restored; map reading; and data collection.   Incumbent assists with the general maintenance of the plant nursery, and the tools and equipment used in the restoration program.   Incumbent will also work in other biological disciplines including: measuring water quality of streams and lakes in the park; monitoring of field plots for elk presence; installing and downloading motion-activated wildlife cameras throughout the park; trapping and identifying insects in the park buildings and natural environment.   The use of computers, global positioning systems (GPS units), and safety equipment will be required as well as the use of government vehicles and kayaks.   Work will be performed off trail, on uneven surfaces, and steep slopes.
