There is one (1) opening for a project full-time Public Health Advisor 4 (PHA 4) within the Division of Environmental Public Health – Office of Environmental Public Health Sciences. This recruitment may be used to fill other PHA 4 positions within the section.
The Climate Change project and this position are currently funded through March 31, 2017.

Primary Duties
Climate change has been identified as one of the biggest threats to public and environmental health that current generations face. Here in Washington State, the warming climate is already beginning to take its toll on shellfish safety and toxicity, on our state’s water supply, and on the health of communities. The changing climate is expected to further affect the food supply, our risk of chronic diseases, and mental health issues.
This position will play an important role in leading the department’s efforts to keep people and communities healthy and help communities successfully adapt to the effects of climate change. Reporting directly to the Office Director the Climate Change Coordinator serves as a designated technical expert regarding the health impacts of climate change and leads the agency’s climate change efforts out of the Office of Environmental Public Health Sciences in the Environmental Public Health Division. This position will also provide consultation and direction on technical issues, concerns, policies, regulations and procedures regarding the health impacts of climate change.
Duties include:
• Works with Local Health Jurisdictions and tribes to help create local plans for adaptation to climate change, following the requirements of the BRACE program.
• Identifies and recommends priorities, strategies, and implementation plans to agency leadership in order to position the Department of Health to successfully contribute to the adaptation/mitigation of climate change effects on public health in WA State.
• Works to obtain grant funding and other sustainable funding for agency’s climate change efforts.
Required Qualifications
NOTE: Experience may have been gained concurrently. • A Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Environmental Health, or allied field; AND two (2) years of professional experience in public health, WHICH INCLUDES experience in a consultative, supervisory, administrative, or advisory capacity.
OR • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Health, Environmental Health or allied science; AND four (4) years of professional experience in public health WHICH INCLUDES experience in a consultative, supervisory, administrative, or advisory capacity.
AND
• Three (3) or more years of experience managing complex projects with many diverse stakeholders.
• Three (3) or more years of experience preparing and managing federal grants.
Desired Qualifications NOTE: Experience may have been gained concurrently.
• Six (6) years of professional experience in public health, WHICH INCLUDES four (4) years in a consultative, supervisory, administrative, or advisory capacity.
• Two (2) or more years of experience working with local governments and/or tribes to local plans for adaptation to climate change.
• Two (2) or more years of experience using quality improvement or Lean techniques to analyze and improve processes.
