Climate Change & Farms

Pierce Conservation District

5430 66th Ave E, Puyallup WA 98371

Climate change will have a large impact on how food is grown, which means farms and food eaters alike need to be prepared to adapt.  Join this free workshop and expo to learn how farming in the Puget Sound will be affected by climate change, how to adapt, and ways to reduce the carbon footprint of your farm or food.   Please register here so that we have a good headcount for snacks and handouts.

Speakers will include:

  • Climate Impact Group will present a model of climate change in the Puyallup Watershed. The Climate Impacts Group (CIG) engages in climate science in the public interest, working to understand the consequences of climate variability and climate change for the US Pacific Northwest (PNW).
  • Sun’s Eye Solar has been installing solar panels on residential and commercial rooftops in the Tacoma and Pierce County area since 2003. They enjoy helping people enjoy their worry free energy systems.
  • Impact Bioenergy – Impact Bioenergy’s distributed bioenergy solutions reduce energy & disposal costs by generating energy from adjacent organic waste streams. Their prefabricated bioenergy units are uniquely engineered and sized to allow organizations and communities to practice onsite bioenergy food waste diversion, thus substantially reducing multiple costs and generating a fast ROI.
  • Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)  – Farmers and ranchers can cut input costs, maintain production, protect soil and water resources, reduce the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels, and save money by using the conservation practices described by NRCS, and they have incentives to help, too.
  • RainBank is an ARCSA accredited designer and installer of rainwater systems and also consults on water systems for both potable, household water use and non-potable for landscaping irrigation and toilet flushing.
  • Tacoma Power will present on how to generally identify opportunities for utility cost savings measures, common measures that may be encountered on agricultural lands, and financial assistance that Tacoma Power can provide for qualified measures.
