Starting Salary Range: $57,688 to $83,647 per year (see “Additional Posting Information” section for details)

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Department Director, manages the day-to-day operations of PCC’s district wide sustainability programs and supports sustainability efforts at all campus locations.Develops policies, procedures and processes in support of academic programs and college operational sustainability efforts. Integrates sustainability into all aspects of the college through working closely with students, volunteers, faculty, administrators, classified staff and the community at large.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Coordinates the development of a district-wide sustainability program and effort which includes the implementation of PCC’s Climate Action Plan that involves collaboration and coordination with academic, business, and operational support of the PCC campuses. This involves working with students, faculty, administration and classified staff to develop strategic, tactical and fiscal plans in support of the program. Initiatives supported include the PCC’s Climate Commitment and e6 Net Zero projects.
  • Develop and recommend policies, procedures and processes related to sustainable practices at PCC. Position ensures compliance with applicable local, state and national laws, regulations and standards. Works with PCC’s Energy Resource Manager position to accomplish energy demand and consumption reductions, monitoring and reporting of carbon emissions, green house gas (GHG), and other reporting requirements.
  • Develops and maintains partnerships with other educational institutions, industry, government and communities to develop and deliver educational programs, demonstration projects, coordinates information, workshops and conferences involving sustainability efforts.
  • Serves on and leads district wide advisory groups and councils to provide assistance and guidance in program development in educational settings. Position works in concert with Campus President(s), Deans, Vice Presidents, Directors and Managers across the PCC District in program development and implementation. Serves on PCC’s Sustainable Practices for Academics and Resource Council (SPARC) which encourages active sharing of sustainability information, input into curriculum development,supporting grant applications and proposals acting as a point of reference for PCC facilities management integration.
  • Collects and analyzes complex data and information; preparing reports on sustainability initiatives relating to carbon foot print, carbon emissions, energy and fuels, and develops solutions to reduce PCC’s impact on the environment. Partner with the Energy Resource Conservation Manager in collecting, analyzing complex data and preparing reports for energy demand and consumption reduction and avoidance.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Facilities Management Services regarding the sustainability program budget including developing budget proposals, justifying expenses and monitoring expenditures. Works with PCC Grants Office and others to identify potential grant sources and opportunities; initiates and coordinates the development of grant proposals and other funding sources that support the College’s Sustainable goals.
  • Represents the College to partners and the community in the area of sustainable practices and works with the Public Affairs Office to market the programs and activities of PCC’s sustainability programs. Serve as liaison with other departments within the College, the community, and external agencies in order to provide information on available resources, programs, and/or services.
  • Involved in hiring, training, supervising and overseeing performance management of employees involved in campus sustainability efforts at all campus locations. This involves facilitating efforts with Americorps employees and support volunteers that are involved in green teams at all campus locations as well as student positions with co-operative education and service learning programs with ASPCC & Sustainability Senators.
  • Coordinates professional development related to sustainability for internal and external constituents.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Satisfactory references and successful completion of the criminal background check are required to meet the minimum qualifications for hire into this position.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Studies or a related sustainability or environmental degree program.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience related to sustainability.
  • One year of lead or supervisory experience (successful completion of PCC LEAD Academy or a comparable external leadership training program may substitute for up to 6 months of lead or supervisory experience).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge and:

  • Evidence of a strong passion for sustainable practices;
  • Evidence of experience in resource conservation, sustainability policy, practices, and processes;
  • Ability to interpret Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes;
  • Understanding of utilities, facilities maintenance and operations infrastructure;
  • Evidence of experience in budgeting principles and practices;
  • Evidence of experience in developing alternatives or new models in purchasing activities to support sustainability initiatives;
  • Understanding of LEED standards as related to new and renovation construction in facilities;
  • Evidence of developing strategic plans, presentation and public speaking
  • Experience with writing business and communication plans

Demonstrated Skill in:

  • Supervising students, volunteers and staff;
  • Ability to discuss and understand academic programs and environment for educating students in sustainability or green collar positions. This includes collaborating with industry, relevant academic departments in discussing curriculum development integrating sustainability into two year technical degrees, transfer credit programs, general coursework, and community education.
  • Evidence of outstanding public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Coordinating complex, multi-discipline projects involving multiple locations;
  • Interpreting and applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and making recommendations for improvement in support of goals;
  • Coordinating activities with internal and/or external groups or agencies;
  • Utilizing computer technology used for communication, data gathering including statistical analysis and preparing a variety of reports related to academic and operational information.
  • Developing, recommending, implementing, and monitoring policies, procedures;
  • Working with diverse cultural and ethnic populations;
  • Communicating effectively through active listening, using oral persuasion and written mediums allowing for open dialogue to occur;
  • Recycling program development and implementation; developing alternative transportation programs, waste reduction programs and teaching and expanding learning opportunities through demonstration projects.

Special/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication including collaboration with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated strategic planning experience to develop and implement an organizational sustainability or conservation plan
  • Experience compiling and tracking data with complex variables to analyze and report on consumption/use
  • Experience developing methods to persuade and implement changes in occupant behavior related to reductions in energy use, waste streams, etc., resulting in cost avoidance
  • Experience writing and tracking grant proposals in which external funding has been awarded to an organization; experience implementing and completing grant projects
  • Experience in managing resources from multiple funds/budgets
  • Experience in leading, mentoring, coaching, recruiting, hiring, training and conducting performance appraisals for staff, students, and service members
  • Experience in presenting programs, information, and data to a wide variety of stakeholders including Board of Directors and a diverse college community
  • Experience fostering inclusion and equity with diverse populations
  • Experience in understanding and interpreting guidelines, rules, regulations, codes and laws
  • Experience in implementing practices to foster environmental stewardship and behavior change
