The Waste 2 Resources (W2R) program is currently looking to fill a 1-800 Recycle Hotline (Environmental Technician) position. This position will be located in our Headquarters Building in Lacey, WA.

 

We are looking for applicants who have good written and verbal communication skills, are organized and detail oriented and are customer service focused.

The Waste 2 Resources (W2R) program’s mission is to reduce both the amount and the effects of wastes generated in Washington and the State Solid and Hazardous Waste Plan (Beyond Waste Plan) with a goal of transitioning to a society that views waste as inefficient uses of resources and believes that most wastes can be eliminated.

 

Some of the key work activities of the 1-800-RECYCLE Hotline position will be:

  • Providing answers to public inquiries received through the 1-800-RECYCLE hotline, web page, mail or other means regarding current waste reduction, recycling, and household hazardous waste programs throughout the state.
  • Using customer service skills to provide information to the public and stakeholders on recycling trends and options.
  • Recording unresolved questions/comments and contact information from 1-800-RECYCLE customers.
  • Passing information to the Hotline lead for follow-up.
  • Reviewing 1-800-RECYCLE database entries and updating data as needed.
  • Working with IT staff for database development and maintenance.
  • Contacting 1-800-RECYCLE participants to ensure information in the database is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Researching possible new recycling locations and entering them into the 1-800-RECYCLE database.

 

Please Note: This is a project position that is funded until November 1, 2016.

 

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma

 

AND

 

Two years of technical or third clerical-level experience in an environmental agency or office.

College-level coursework in environmental, physical, or natural sciences, or closely related field may be substituted, year for year, for the required experience.

 

Demonstrated success at providing customer service.

 

Demonstrated proficiency working with Microsoft products (Access, Word, Excel, and Outlook).


Experience for third clerical-level or an Office Assistant 3 can include the following work activities
:1)Resolves problems and responds to inquiries regarding rules, regulations, policies, department procedures, and department services; answers telephone; receives and refers visitors; 2) Reviews documents, records, or applications for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with rules; determines and explains action necessary to achieve compliance or approval; 3) Composes office correspondence such as requests for documentation and responses to requests for information; devises, evaluates and revises forms for internal use; 4) Reviews and verifies fiscal reports for accuracy; investigates and corrects errors to ensure compliance with established procedures and policies; uses basic arithmetic to perform computations; 5) Establishes and maintains complex electronic or manual file systems or data base files; 6) Prepares or assists in the preparation, compilation, and coordination of reports and records such as financial, payroll, labor distribution, equipment usage, purchasing, inventory, personnel, scheduling, registration, and testing; 7) Compiles and produces material such as financial statements, manuscripts, schedules, test materials, engineering/construction reports, and technical and statistical reports requiring specialized knowledge and judgment in selection and treatment of data and format; prepares, tables, charts and graphs as required; 8) Performs complex word processing tasks such as merging and sorting, integrating text with graphics, spreadsheet, and data base files, uploading/downloading, and creating footnotes and outlines; uses spreadsheet and data base software to develop and maintain records; uses basic statistical software packages; performs simple computer inquiry programming; uses graphics software and recommends appropriate display of information; 9) Orders, receives and maintains inventory; 10) May assist in studies, surveys and the preparation of reports by gathering and computing numerical information; draft for supervisor’s review narrative interpretation of information to be included in reports; review reports for clarity and accuracy; refer questionable data or narrative to supervisor for clarification;


Desired Qualifications:

One year of professional experience in a customer service oriented field.

 

Knowledge of environmental issues, especially solid waste, in Washington State.
