Job Description

An internship at Boeing will provide you with an opportunity to gain industry knowledge through productive work experience in a field related to your academic or career goals. You will receive hands-on experience and understanding that is difficult to obtain through a textbook or classroom discussion.  The internship opportunities are within the following areas:  Ergonomics, Workplace Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Radiation Health Protection.

Ergonomics at Boeing involves investigation of ergonomic risks present in factory and office environments, then partnering with employees and managers to reduce or eliminate those risks to prevent injuries.  Working with experienced Boeing Ergonomists, Ergonomics Interns will conduct ergonomics evaluations, document assessment results, prioritize risks and generate solutions.  Interns will also work with manufacturing operations to develop and document a sustaining ergonomics program and strategy.

Radiation Health Protection is the science and practice of protecting people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation (radioactive material and x-rays) and non-ionizing radiation (radar fields, lasers, strong magnetic fields and high intensity light sources). Our intern program is a hands-on opportunity to work with health physicists, scientists, engineers and other workers handling and using radiation sources. Typical job assignments involve performing surveys, hazard analysis, counting samples, performing monitoring at radiography sites, monitoring exposures, etc.

Workplace Safety at Boeing involves design, implementation and support of safety programs and processes. Interns will work on and document internal safety assessments, assist with investigations, assess compliance, participate in workplace audits, draft corrective action plans.   They will also identify potential areas of risk, perform risk mitigation, and perform field surveys.

Industrial Hygiene is the development, implementation and monitoring occupational health and safety programs and processes to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Interns will be involved in the industrial hygiene sampling planning and strategy and assist in development of hazard communications to employees.

Preferred Majors and disciplines of study: Human Factors, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science,  Radiological Health Protection, Geology, Toxicology, Occupational Health & Safety, Kinesiology or related Science field.

Qualifications
To qualify, candidates must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program (or a consolidated Bachelor’s/Master’s degree program). A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is preferred. 

 

Preferred majors include:  Occupational Health & Safety, Ergonomics, Kinesiology, Radiological Health Protection, Toxicology, Industrial Hygiene, Toxicology, Geology, Human Factors or related Science field.
