Title: LIVING COMMUNITY CHALLENGE MANAGER

Status: Regular, exempt position

Reports to: Technical Director, Living Community Challenge

Hours: Full-time

Starting Salary: Salary commensurate with experience

Location: Seattle, WA

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI) seeks a Living Community Challenge Manager to join our staff. This position will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Living Community Challenge, the world’s most stringent standard for the creation and evolution of new and existing restorative communities. The Institute aims to reimagine and evolve cities and communities to be an ideal human habitat — a place where people can be restored by nature and a sense of equitable commons — as well as self sufficient in energy and water, all while supporting health by eliminating toxins and human powered transportation. The successful applicant must be a multitasking self-starter, with a passion for the ILFI mission, strong community development skills, and excellent interpersonal and project management skills.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated urban design, architecture, ecological design or community planning/engagement experience, and should have a passion for taking the Living Building framework to the city and community scale. The position will be filled in Seattle, Washington and will involve periodic travel within the Pacific Northwest and beyond. ILFI also has staff and programs in Portland, OR, Chicago, San Francisco, and Boston. ILFI offers a collaborative, team-oriented workplace that treats employees as responsible professionals. Description of Duties

  • Manage the Living Community Challenge program nationally and internationally, including supporting registered projects, initiating project outreach, developing program resources, and developing and maintaining partnerships.
  • Manage Living Community Challenge projects nationally and internationally, including running visioning meetings with partners, engaging with the master plan development process, and creating analysis, graphics and reports.
  • Consult with design teams on master plans, including assessing their capacity to achieve net zero energy, net zero water, biophilic design and urban agriculture.
  • Develop and maintain Living Community Challenge resources, including handbooks, online resources, website, and customer service support.
  • Work with local partners and municipalities to implement Living Community Challenge visions in communities through community engagement partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain education materials focused on the Living Community Challenge program.
  • Organize and manage volunteers and interns with special projects.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Masters degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Community Development, or field related to Living Community Challenge.
  • At least 5 years professional experience in the field.
  • Excellent graphic skills using Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and other Mac-based graphics programs as well as ability to use Sketch-Up, CAD and hand drawing skills.
  • Project management skills and the ability to engage a diverse group of players in a common vision.
  • Multi-tasking skills, ability to jump from one project to another.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ILFI’s mission.
  • Understanding and commitment to the elements of the Living Community Challenge.

  • Friendly, outgoing nature. An ability to go with the flow in a fast paced, high-energy organization is a key to success in this job.
  • Specialized knowledge of community energy and water systems, urban agriculture, biophilic city design, micromobility and human scaled transportation, equitable places, and/or healthy community design.
