(Job #16-16) Administrative Analyst/Specialist I Exempt, Sustainability Analyst, $3,897-$6,142 / month. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a full-time, 12 month, benefited, probationary position in Facilities Management.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Office of Sustainability and in collaboration with the Humboldt State University Facilities Management team and colleagues across the campus, the incumbent is responsible for identifying, prioritizing, planning, developing, coordinating, and promoting sustainability initiatives and activities for university-wide implementation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience in sustainability practices involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs. Working knowledge and skills in sustainability, with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods.

Duties:

  • Assists the Sustainability Director (SD) in examining University activities in areas such as, but not limited to transportation, procurement, landscaping, built environment, food services, curriculum, and water. Identifies and prioritizes likely areas to introduce sustainability concepts and cost efficiencies. Produces, maintains, and updates, as necessary, plans and documents charting sustainability goals, priorities, progress, and information.
  • Supports the development and implementation of sustainability initiatives, education and outreach by University departmental units, groups, and students. Acts as mentor for student intern research projects providing professional guidance and knowledge to students and student staff.
  • Assume leadership role in conducting sustainability assessments and reporting metrics to internal and external sources such as AASHE STARS program, Sierra Cool Schools, Princeton Review, and campus based sustainability reports.
  • Manage social media and web presence for the office by creating/maintaining content on campus and external websites.

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply emerging communication theories, practices, principles, and techniques that might be employed to promote and advance sustainability on campus.
  • Working knowledge of sustainability certification programs and rating systems related to facilities operations and development including USGBC LEED and AASHE STARS. Experience building and sustaining collaborative working relation- ships with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Skill in the research, development and evaluation of policies and programs, including skill in the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of data to develop sound conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Expertise in investigating and analyzing problems with a broad administrative impact and implications. Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tact, diplomacy and professionalism to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license for the operation of any vehicle or equipment required in the performance of duties including an appropriate driving record which is interpreted according to UCAM 6562.
  • Ability to operationalize sustainability concepts (economy, society, environment) into all aspects of performing job duties.
  • An understanding of the dynamics of diversity in higher education and a demonstrated ability to incorporate this understanding, as appropriate, in all levels of your work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science or Engineering, Natural Resources Planning, Environmental Planning, or other relevant program.
  • Two years work experience in a University or institutional setting.
  • Two years of analytical and/or administrative experience formulating and implementing programs in support of a highly complex organization.
  • Well-developed knowledge and background in the area of sustainability including that required to develop and administer related programs appropriate to the University environment.
