Science, Service, and Stewardship 

This position is located in the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Alaska Region; Protected Resources Division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

·         Assist with implementation of conservation and recovery programs for marine mammals in Alaska;

·         Conduct consultations with federal agencies regarding the effects of federal actions on threatened and endangered species under Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA);

·         Identify, assess and resolve natural resource issues which involve Federal, state and local governments; and

·         Support conservation for protected species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) and Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA).

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Must possess a Bachelor’s or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, fisheries, marine science, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (Transcripts Required)

OR

Must possess a combination of education and experience. This includes courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Transcripts Required)

In addition to meeting the BASIC REQUIREMENT, applicants must meet the SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE requirement for this position.

Minimum Qualifications: Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the ZP-II band (GS-09) in the Federal service such as the following: applying federal laws related to natural resource management such as the National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, or Marine Mammal Protection Act; developing written analyses of complex marine resource issues; working in teams to complete tasks related to natural resource management.

OR

Must have a Ph.D., three years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a Ph.D., or an equivalent doctoral degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, fisheries, marine science, chemistry, or related disciplines that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Must have a combination of experience and graduate level education beyond the Master’s level that, when combined, equals at least 100% of the total requirement.
