The Office of Sustainability is looking for an Assistant Sustainability Coordinator. This is a one-year position with potential for extension reporting to the Sustainability Coordinator and supporting the University’s mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all other activities.

Essential Function

Under the general direction of the Sustainability Coordinator and the University Architect/Associate VP for Planning + Design + Construction, coordinate activities with the Associate VP of Facilities and the Assistant VP of Utilities to assist with the President’s Climate Commitment Initiative and work on sustainability efforts at the University of Cincinnati. The work will begin on the Uptown Campus but may expand to other campuses.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide support for the University’s sustainability initiatives and work with students, faculty, and staff
  • Provide support to President’s Advisory Council on Environmental Sustainability (PACES)
  • Assist in planning and execution of sustainability related engagement and outreach events
  • May provide coordination and direct supervision of sustainability advocate student workers
  • Manage and increase capacity of on-campus garden
  • Attend meetings in support of sustainability efforts as required
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records of sustainability initiatives and accomplishments
  • Assist with developing and maintaining contacts on environmental issues
  • Research initiatives as needed
  • Provide general administrative work and other responsibilities as required

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors’ degree with one (1) year experience; -OR- Associate’s degree with three (3) years’ experience; -OR- five (5) years’ experience. Experience must be in program coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with student groups desired
  • Some familiarity with sustainability initiatives on university or college campuses
  • Ability to motivate others
  • Experience with gardening and event planning
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suites, GIS, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred

Working in an outdoor garden.

Picking up and lifting items collected for recycling.
