VEGETATION FIELD TECHNICIAN POSITIONS / WHITEBARK PINE PROJECT
(3 Positions available)
Technicians will work on high elevation whitebark pine stand
assessments and participate in cone collections. Vegetation data will
be collected on forest structure, plant species composition, and understory productivity.
Positions will require navigation to and from remote sites, overnight
stays in the field, identification of plant species using taxonomic
keys, collection of plant survey data, download and manipulation of
GIS data, data entry, and quality control of data.
Demonstrated botanical experience using taxonomic keys to identify
plant species is preferred. Applicants with experience or coursework
in botany or plant ecology are desired. Must be able to follow
direction, work well in a team, and work outdoors in rough terrain and inclement weather.
Incumbents must be able to hike several miles, keep detailed records,
and perform physical tasks, such as lifting 40 lbs, Attention to
detail is a plus.
This position is based in the Yakama Nation Wildlife Program offices
in Toppenish, Washington. Salary ranges from $12.58/hr – $14.56/hr,
depending on qualifications. Work schedule will typically be 40 hours
per week, M-TH,
7:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
Candidates must be able to acquire a Yakama Nation driver’s license
(good driving record is required) and pass a pre-employment drug test.
Preference for Yakama tribal members. Work period will begin from
early July through early October 2016.

PROJECT

Vegetation technicians are sought to assist with plant survey
fieldwork on the Yakama Reservation for the 2016 field season.
Demonstrated botanical experience using taxonomic keys to identify plant species is preferred.
Applicants with experience or coursework in botany or plant ecology
are desired. Must be able to follow direction, work well in a team,
and work outdoors in rough terrain. Attention to detail is a plus.
Salary ranges from $12.58/hr – $13.87/hr, depending on qualifications.
Candidates must be able to acquire a Yakama Nation driver’s license
(good driving record is
required) and pass a pre-employment drug test. Preference for Yakama
tribal members. Work period will begin May or June 2016, depending on
availability and run through August. This position is based in the
Yakama Nation Wildlife Program offices in Toppenish, Washington. Work
schedule will typically be 40 hours per week, M-TH, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
Technicians will work on forest understory forage production assessments.

WEED CONTROL TECHNICIANS
(4 positions available)
Weed Control Technicians will assist the Program Manager, program
supervisors and other support staff in the protection of Yakama Nation
natural resources from invasive plant populations. Must be able to
follow direction, work well in a team, and work outdoors in rough
terrain and inclement weather. Attention to detail is a plus.
The job is centered around Integrated Weed Management and the
incumbent must be certified through the Washington State Department of
Agriculture as a licensed Pesticide Applicator. The incumbent may be
required to upgrade their applicator’s certification to perform
specific applications relevant to accomplishing program goals and
objectives (i.e. aquatic and roadside endorsements). Demonstrated
botanical experience and ability to identify plant species is
preferred. Candidates must be able to acquire a Yakama Nation driver’s
license (good driving record is required) and pass a pre-employment drug test. Preference for Yakama tribal members.
Incumbent will perform tasks relevant to pesticide license
certification level which will include: accurate pesticide solution
mixing, equipment calibration, safe operation of equipment, minor
equipment maintenance, assume responsibility for program equipment and vehicles, record applications, keep daily log, write reports and handle pesticides safely.
Ability to carry a 40 pound back pack and operate weed control
equipment under extreme and adverse weather conditions in challenging
terrain is important.
