The Center for Environmental Education Research at the National Council for Science and the Environment is seeking four interns to work for two months over the summer to assist with updating our census of interdisciplinary environmental, sustainability and energy programs.

The interns receive valuable training and experience in data collection, screening, coding and analysis as well as report writing and preparation.They also provide an opportunity to explore the different types of graduate programs available in these areas. Interns who successfully complete the two months of full time work will be included as co-authors on the resulting NCSE reports (up to four reports will be published).

Interns may work remotely or in the NCSE Washington DC office.

Research Intern Position Announcement

That National Council for Science and the Environment (NCSE)’s Center for Environmental Education Research (CEER) has 4​ openings for undergraduate or graduate level interns to assist in research for​ NCSE’s upcoming census and reports on trends in interdisciplinary environmental, sustainability and energy (IESE) higher education programs in the United States. As valuable members of the team, the interns will work closely under the supervision of CEER Director Dr. Shirley Vincent. CEER research reports are highly valued by our partners in academia and government and are widely cited. Interns will gain experience in statistical sampling, data collection, data screening and coding and, if time allows, data analysis and report preparation. All interns who complete two months work on the project will be included as co­authors​ in the resulting research reports.There positions are unpaid.​

Interns’ responsibilities:​

  • ­ Assist with production and delivery of census report. This includes collecting relevant data regarding environmental, sustainability and energy higher education programs via web research.
  • Maintain data spreadsheets and files, and carry out data coding and screening.
  • ­May include data analysis, and creation of visuals such as tables, graphs, and maps, and some report writing if time permits.

 Desired qualifications and skills:

  • Currently completing an undergraduate or graduate program in natural or social science field.
  • Ability to manage large sets of data.
  • Strict attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • A sense of responsibility and time management.
