Thurston Conservation District has 2 outreach positions open!

The Thurston Conservation District is voluntary, non-regulatory organization designed to assist landowners in managing the natural resources on their property. Along with technical assistance, the district has a variety of landowner and youth education programs, restoration projects and other services. The district is very active in the community and in partnership outreach and implementation projects. The district serves the residents of Thurston County.

Education & Outreach Coordinator

Regular Position, 3/4 time
Thurston Conservation District is looking for a dynamic, energetic, creative thinker with a strong work ethic to become part of a cohesive team of passionate individuals in a fast-paced, hands-on and rewarding work environment. The Education & Outreach Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and assisting with the district’s educational programs and events, including: workshops, publications, social media, community outreach, etc. In addition, the Education & Outreach Coordinator will focus on community outreach to effectively communicate with a diverse population. This position will represent the organization and share our programs and services within the community by tabling at variety of events throughout the year, participating in regular meetings, co-coordinating partner events and hosting district outreach programs.

Environmental Stewardship & Outreach Coordinator – AmeriCorps
Full Time: Sept. 1 2016 – July 15, 2017
**Must comply with AmeriCorps requirements

The Environmental Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will take on a unique role within the community by bridging the gap between landowners and education in all fields of natural resources management. This position is designed to inspire community connectedness: through volunteering that fosters a sense of environmental stewardship in youth and adults using a variety of specific outreach programs, and building and strengthening relationships between Thurston Conservation District, community organizations, and individual private landowners. A few specific examples of building on the work done this past year are: our social media campaign – broadening our scope, reaching out to volunteers and finding new ways to share our mission with our community; the South Puget Sound Regional Envirothon – increasing student participation in both: currently involved counties and introducing the competition to new schools, revising the competition based on the current year’s feedback from teachers, students and volunteers, develop new hands-on activities and subject matter for resource stations, building our volunteer base, developing student materials around the next current environmental issue; Clear Choices for Clean Water – meeting or exceeding our annual goal of new participants, assisting in conducting a new program evaluation through community pet waste outreach and studies, hosting new community outreach events (i.e. Nisqually Watershed Tour).
