The High Desert Museum is a non-profit organization focused on the biotic and cultural elements of the High Desert region of the Western United States. Located near Bend, Oregon, on the edge of the beautiful Deschutes National Forest, the Museum melds the natural history of diverse habitat types with human history of the environment into a unique blend of indoor and outdoor exhibits, living history and both living and historic collections.

We are seeking a Wildlife Specialist to provide for the on-going husbandry and care of wildlife in the living collection, as well as presenting conservation programs which include live mammals, reptiles, and free-flight raptors.

Conducts daily animal husbandry duties, including cleaning animal enclosures and diet preparation. Conducts a range of other tasks related to facilities maintenance including daily sweeping, mopping, raking, scrubbing, basic grounds maintenance, and minor construction using a range of tools including hammers, saws, electrical drills and screwdrivers. Works safely in close proximity to live animals. Handles live animals as directed, including raptors, reptiles and mammals. Assists senior staff in conducting public educational programs using Museum wildlife. Independently conducts wildlife interpretive talks 2-3 times daily. May assist in training of live animals for use in conservation educational programs as directed by senior wildlife staff. Complies with all Museum policies, procedures and safety regulations. Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
