Position Description
Tacoma Power is seeking a Biologist responsible for operating the Cowlitz Falls Fish Facility, supporting and directing staff, sampling and marking fish, collecting data and preparing operational reports.
Biologist 1 is the first level in a series. Growth opportunities are available and employees are expected to promote within the series commensurate with their growing knowledge, experience and accomplishments.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading field crews in daily smolt and adult fish sampling activities, associated with the Cowlitz Falls Fish Facility and North Shore Downstream Fish Collector
- Coordinate contractor, local utility and staff scheduling
- Effectively communicate and implement study plans and other directives from the Project Biologist or Fish Facilities Manager
- Mark and tag juvenile salmonids
- Oversee and perform facility maintenance
- Transport juvenile and adult salmon throughout the Cowlitz Basin
- Assist in field studies and data collection within the Cowlitz Basin
- Generate routine updates and annual reports
- Support fish passage facility operations and other program implementation activities as needed
This position will facilitate Tacoma Power operations associated with the Cowlitz Falls Fish Facility and North Shore Downstream Collector at the Cowlitz Falls Dam near Randle, Washington.
This position will play an integral role in facilitating fish passage studies; leading field crews in data collection; facilitating day-to-day data collection; assisting in data summarization; report writing; managing contracts and participating in adaptive management discussions with regional agencies. Collection and transmission of high quality and transparent data is paramount to achieving License goals for the benefit of the resource and maximizing budgetary funds.
