Job Title: Wetland Biologist

Tribal Department: Natural & Cultural Resources

Job Summary: This staff position is responsible for the continued development and implementation of wetland program components including the wetland inventory database, conducting wetlands surveys identifying locations and assessing functions, and proposing code updates. Responsibilities will also include performing wetland delineations for other Tribal Departments, assessing the impacts proposed developments may have on wetlands, designing and implementing wetland restoration and mitigation projects, monitoring project performance and representing the Tulalip Tribes on wetland planning processes. Other responsibilities include the completion of an annual report documenting accomplishments and future needs, the supervision of technical staff who may be assigned to project, procurement of outside funding for position and restoration work, and management of grants and Tribal funds used to implement the program. Some program components may require coordination with other Tribal departments that have overlapping interests. Responsibilities also include implementing Tribal personnel and procurement policies.

Pay Rate: DOE

Education:
• B.S. degree (M.S. preferred) in wetland science.
• Wetland Delineation Certification preferred

Experience:
• A minimum of five (5) years of experience in wetland management related activities
• A minimum of one (1) year of experience in planning, implementing, and monitoring wetland mitigation or restoration projects
• Experience and knowledge of local, state and federal permitting processes
• Excellent written and oral communication skills (including public speaking)

Prerequisites:
• Must have and maintain a valid WA State Driver’s License and must adhere to the Tribal Insurance Policy (Abstract Required)

• The position requires working in varied conditions, from office surroundings to difficult environmental field conditions with the ability to pass an agility exam, determining physical capability to perform essential job duties required.
• The Tulalip Tribes requires different levels of pre-employment background screening for all positions. Employment is contingent upon successful passing of these background checks.
• No alcohol or drug related criminal conviction within 1 year
• No Suspension, Last Chance Agreement (LCA), Dismissal or Demotion within 1 year
Job Requirements:
• Must adhere to strict confidentiality of all departmental information seen and heard at all times.
• Must have tolerance and patients to deal with upset, angry and/or frustrated patient and/or vendors.
• Must be willing to attend progressive related trainings as deemed necessary.
• Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment.
• Must have excellent managerial, verbal, and writing skills.
• Must have supervisory experience and work well with all types of people
• Must have a strong understanding of wetland ecology, soils and hydrology and the necessary background setting up databases, conducting wetland surveys, assessing wetland function, and delineating wetlands and designing and implementing wetland restoration projects
• The applicant must be proficient with spreadsheets, graphical representation and interpretation of that data, development of websites, GIS programs such as Arc/Map, GPS equipment, and MS Office programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Should have a familiarity with statistical applications for monitoring and restoration. and have an understanding of the Native American culture, customs, and treaty rights
