Tenure Track Faculty Position in Applied Ecology
The University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Applied Ecology in the Division of Science and Mathematics in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (IAS). This is a full-time position with a 9-month per year service period. The successful candidate will be an intellectually expansive scholar whose research and teaching applies rigorous ecological principles and approaches to address pressing environmental problems. The successful candidate will teach courses in ecology, introductory biology and interdisciplinary general education courses, will contribute to our Environmental Science major (including a new Conservation Biology and Ecology option) and will support other interdisciplinary majors at UW Tacoma. We are most interested in candidates with strong teaching potential from any area of applied ecology who have conducted scholarship of high quality and impact and whose research complements that of our current faculty. Candidates who connect with Pacific Northwest environmental issues that have global significance, including but not limited to wildlife ecology, fisheries biology, plant ecology, or urban ecology, and whose research would benefit from collaborative community-engaged research in the Pacific Northwest are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will enjoy substantial collaborative opportunities across UW (www.tacoma.uw.edu/ecology) and will be expected to work with students from diverse racial/ethnic and cultural populations, involve undergraduate students in faculty research, and integrate new pedagogical techniques and technologies into teaching/learning.
The position begins September 2017 and requires an earned doctorate (or foreign equivalent) at the time of appointment in Applied Ecology or related field. Candidates in the final stages of their dissertation may be appointed on an acting basis.
The Tacoma campus of the University of Washington was founded in 1990 with an interdisciplinary approach at its foundation.
