RAYONIER RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
Description
The R&D Coordinator is responsible for providing technical assistance and technology transfer for silviculture and tree improvement to U.S. Forest Resources’ Pacific Northwest Region headquartered in Hoquiam, WA. The position also coordinates with the Silviculture and Genetics Resources research groups headquartered at the Forest Research Center located in Yulee, FL. Areas of research and technology transfer include site preparation, fertilization, competition control, forest pests, species site relationships, growth and yield, seedlings, and tree improvement.
Important functions of this position include interpretation of research results, such as growth responses, and financial analyses to guide optimal operational decisions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance and technology transfer for silviculture and tree improvement to Rayonier’s U.S. Forest Resources’ Pacific Northwest Region.
Provide feedback to the Forest Research Center on the research/technical needs of operations personnel.
Provide field support for Silviculture and Tree Improvement projects. This includes initiating studies, locating new trial sites, preparation of trial establishment reports, data collection, and interpretation of various trial results.
Local coordination of seed orchard management.
Serve as field contact for various University/Industry research cooperatives and their activities.
Coordinate contractual efforts related to trial establishment, silviculture treatment applications and periodic measurement collection. Insure activities follow approved trial study plan methods and procedures.
Assist in research budget development associated with all field trial efforts.
Maintain a safe work environment for company personnel, contractors, and other stakeholders Required Qualifications
Minimum M.S. degree in related field; Ph.D. preferred.
Three+ years of experience in forest research or forest operations.
