Position:  Science Interpretation Program Volunteer Coordinator

Status: Full Time; Regular; Non-Exempt; $15-16/hour

Purpose/ Summary:  The Science Interpretation Program Volunteer Coordinator oversees the volunteers in the Science Interpretation department, providing a positive environment and supporting them in providing a world class guest experience for all visitors.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees the Science Interpretation Program’s volunteer team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Works with the support of the Volunteer Engagement Manager to cultivate and grow, recruit, train, schedule, and provide on-going support for a team of volunteers. Provides back up to other volunteer coordinators and their teams across the organization.
  2. Works closely with volunteers to meet their needs and expectations. A major element is building successful relationships with volunteers and fostering relationships between the volunteers and other staff.
  3. Serves on a team that researches, develops and implements educational activities and materials related to volunteer roles.
  4. Adapts and maintains an evaluation system to assess both individual volunteer performance and overall program success at prescribed milestones.
  5. Coaches and evaluates volunteers including observing volunteer stations to ensure customer service and program quality goals are met.
  6. Coordinates volunteer staffing for special events in conjunction with other program staff.
  7. Brings entrepreneurial, motivating and supporting energy to the volunteer program.
  8. Role models by example, providing positive example of the volunteer role and serving as ambassador of Pacific Science Center.
  9. Provides logistical support to ensure smooth daily operations related to volunteers, occasionally including responding to radio calls to support positive staff, volunteer and guest experiences.
  10. Identifies or recruits, trains and supports Volunteer Lead(s) to provide operational support related to volunteers.
  11. Contributes to general Pacific Science Center volunteer program design, operations and growth.
  12. Provides Human Resources-related secondary administrative support as needed.
