Camp Pemigewassett (“Pemi”) (www.camppemi.com) , a residential camp for boys, age 8-15, in Wentworth, NH. seeks an experienced teacher/naturalist for a full-time seasonal position, June 9-August 14, 2017. Pemi has a 92 year tradition of excellence in science-based, outdoor, nature education and the person taking this position will not only teach in the program but also assist in its operation.
Candidates should have at least 3 years experience in outdoor/environmental education or science teaching, and a degree in one of the field-based sciences. Additional experience might substitute for the degree. We are specifically looking for someone with a passion for insects and related organisms. In a,ddition strength in at least one of the following would be a plus: fresh-water ecology, forest ecology, birds, animals, astronomy, wilderness skills. While familiarity with our northern New England habitats would be helpful, it is not necessary as we can provide training.
Pemi is located on the edge of the White Mountains and the New Hampshire Lakes Region. We own all the property surrounding a small lake and the habitats on our property include lake, bog, swamp, mixed conifer forest, small streams, and riparian. Other habitats are a short trip away. We have a large, fully equipped nature center that includes reference collections of insects, rocks and minerals, and mushrooms, along with a 1000 volume library of field guides and other nature-related books.
