GIS Internship
Internship Opportunity at the Thurston Regional Planning Council
The Thurston Regional Planning Council (TRPC) is looking for a capable, self-starter to join its staff as an intern beginning in early March 2017. The internship is expected to last 3 to 4 months. Compensation is $15 per hour. Work schedule will be determined within the traditional 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. workday. Anticipated hourly commitment per week is 30-40 hours. Applicants are encouraged to submit materials by February 24th, 2017. The position is open until filled.
The Internship:
The intern will assist with the development of a sidewalk inventory for the City of Lacey and its Urban Growth Area. The intern will work under the supervision of senior GIS staff at TRPC to develop a GeoDatabase of sidewalk infrastructure for use in the development of a Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan for the City of Lacey.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledgeable in the use of ArcGIS software suite.
- Experience developing and editing data in ESRI Geodatabase format.
- Experience developing metadata for GIS datasets.
- Excellent record keeping and organizational capabilities; careful attention to detail; comfortable working with numbers; public service oriented.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, via e-mail and over the telephone.
- Experience operating a PC in Windows environment. Experience using word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to conduct research and gather data using the Internet.
- Interest/career plans in GIS, regional planning, demographic and economic trends, and/or local government affairs.
