PhD Research in Conservation Psychology Forest Ecosystems & Society with Dr. Troy Hall at OSU
Seeking a PhD Student in Conservation Psychology Forest Ecosystems & Society, Oregon State University Are you interested in studying how people reason about environmental and natural resource issues? Would you like to learn more about effective science education? An opportunity for PhD study in the Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society (FES) is available with Dr. Troy Hall and OSU’s Science and Math Investigative Learning Experience (SMILE) program. This position is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation in the area of genomics. Our work will develop and evaluate curricular modules to be implemented in high school science clubs to explore how students’ reasoning about GMOs evolves and to explore the underpinnings of their attitudes about GMOs. The student will also work closely with students in the Strauss Forest Biotechnology Lab (http://people.forestry.oregonstate.edu/steve-strauss/).
Three years of funding will be provided through a Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA). GRAs provide a stipend, tuition, fees, and access to health insurance for each appointed term. Additional funding may be available through TA or instructor positions. The position will start no later than Fall 2017 (preferably in summer 2017). The position is contingent on the applicant’s formal acceptance to the FES program and admission to the OSU Graduate School.
This position requires a MS in a social science discipline, interest in or familiarity with genomics and genetic biotechnology, and a desire to work with an interdisciplinary team of researchers and students.
