The Washington Women in Need Grant is now open

Washington Women in Need (WWIN) is a nonprofit organization that provides education and health care grants to low-income women in Washington State to help them improve their lives.
 
WWIN makes grants to determined women who are looking to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities for generations to come. This spring, WWIN will award 60-70 Education Grants to women from across Washington. Grantees will receive up to $5,000 over a one-year period, which can be used for tuition, mandatory fees, and required books and supplies. Applicants must meet WWIN’s eligibility criteria to be considered which can be found here http://wwin.org/eligibility/.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

WWIN makes grants to determined women who are ready for transformational change and looking to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities for generations to come.

General Eligibility Criteria

The following are required criteria that you must meet before applying for any WWIN grant:

  • You must be female
  • You must be 18 years of age or older
  • You must be have resided in Washington for the past 12 months for Education Grant applicants or the past three months for Health Care Gap Fund applicants
  • You must be a United States citizen or permanent resident, or a refugee or asylee to the United States
  • Your annual household income must be less than or equal to the below:


Education Grant Eligibility Criteria

In addition to meeting WWIN’s general criteria listed above, Education Grant applicants must also meet the following criteria before applying:

  • You must be admitted into or registered at an approved, accredited Washington college or university
  • You must be pursuing your vocational or technical certification, Associate’s, or first Bachelor’s degree
  • You must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before applying

Education Grantees will be expected to:

  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA or greater each term
  • Provide grades, registration, and any revised educational or financial information to WWIN each term
  • Complete interim and final surveys
  • Participate in WWIN events and activities–writing thank-you notes to donors, attending the annual Luncheon–as is comfortable

Health Care Gap Fund Grant Eligibility Criteria

In addition to meeting WWIN’s general criteria listed above, Health Care Gap Fund Grant applicants must also meet the following criteria before applying:

  • If you are a previous WWIN grantee, you must not have received a health care grant of any type (this includes a grant for physical, dental, vision, or hearing services; mental health counseling; or health insurance premium assistance)
  • You must be enrolled in Apple Health or Medicare insurance coverage
  • You must have made a reasonable attempt to use your Apple Health or Medicare insurance coverage for any services for which you are applying
  • If you have Apple Health and are applying for crowns, bridges, or root canals, you must provide a treatment plan from your dentist showing the necessary service
  • If you have Apple Health and are applying for eyeglasses or contacts, you must provide a prescription from your eye doctor showing the necessary service
