Position Summary | This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Ice Core Lab Assistant positions for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU).
This position exists to assist with federally funded research on the history of atmospheric gases from polar ice cores. |
Position Duties | 50% Prepare ice samples for laboratory analysis .
40% Set up instruments for analysis, seal samples in vacuum containers, run vacuum systems and gas chromatographs, track data using Excel . 5% Help maintain ice core sample inventory and freezer archive. 5% Make air free ice, help maintain clean and organized laboratory environment. Possible travel to National Ice Core laboratory for sampling. Position will require working in -25C freezer, use of hand and power tools, and possibly irregular work hours. |

Additional Required Qualifications | Evidence of mechanical aptitude.
Experience with or ability to quickly learn to use Microsoft Excel. Experience with or ability to quickly learn to use,hand and power tools including band saw. Attention to detail. Basic mathematical skills. Good communication skills. Ability to work with a diverse team of co workers. |
Preferred (Special) Qualifications | Interest in earth or climate science or related fields.
Laboratory experience. Experience with mechanical design, electronics, networking, or related topics. Willingness to work in both summer and during school year. |
