Spring 2018

GRuB grows healthy people, food and community. We bridge the fields of sustainable food systems, healthcare, education, and hunger by engaging underserved populations in innovative, holistic, and community-centered solutions. GRuB is working to ensure that marginalized communities and disengaged youth are at the center, not the fringes, of the “Good Food Movement”. The Victory Garden Project connects low-income families and underserved people to the knowledge, training, materials needed to grow their own food, to improve their health and well-being, and to spread the benefits of gardening throughout their networks. While GRuB supports these homegrown efforts we also strive to build effective partnerships with organizations working to transform unjust systems.

The Victory Garden Project (VGP) builds on the legacy of Vietnam veteran Dan Barker who built gardens for

people in need as his own way to recover from the wounds of war. The Garden-Builder Intern works with the VGP Team to coordinate and implement our backyard garden building program. During the spring season the Garden-Builder works with teams of volunteers to construct 50 backyard gardens, prepares weekly build packets, and communicates with gardeners and volunteers. The Garden-Builder also supports documentation of the season and provides office and organizational support as needed.

Hands-on experience in garden construction, community outreach, volunteer coordination, project documentation and evaluation.
