Botany Technician Job in Northern California, Klamath National Forest

               Summer 2018

            

The Klamath National Forest will be hiring a temporary Biological Technician to lead our botany/invasive plant crew for the summer field season of 2018. Desired availability is from March/April through October, 2018.  The position will be approximately 5-7 months in duration. Pay at the GS-6 level is $17.54 per hour.

 

Job Descriptions:

 

This position will be stationed in Happy Camp and will work under the District Botanist.

 

The incumbent would perform as a crew leader for 2 seasonal technicians. Duties of the job include surveying, mapping, and treating invasive plant species. Other assigned duties may include: rare plant surveys, project monitoring, restoration projects, & environmental education and outreach. Assistance and coordination with other seasonal crews for the accomplishment of inventory and treatment is anticipated and expected.

 

Desired skills include: Prior experience in a similar position, demonstrated leadership ability, familiarity with northern California flora, and proficiency using word processing, GIS, GPS, topographic maps/compass, and hand tools including gas engine weed eaters.  A valid Driver’s License, the ability to operate vehicles on rough, narrow roads, including use of 4WD, is necessary for all positions. Qualified candidates must have good physical fitness and be willing to work under difficult conditions on steep slopes and/or hot roadsides throughout the summer.  Occasional hiking of up to 8 miles round trip per day will be required.
