The Composite Recycling Technology Center (CRTC) is a high-tech, 501(c)(3) non-profit, startup located in Port Angeles, Washington that is working on innovative ways to help eliminate the 50 million pounds of carbon fiber scrap that goes into landfill globally each year. Our Mission is to inspire and grow the global composite recycling community through innovation in technology and manufacturing, that transforms carbon fiber scrap into products that positively impact people’s lives and our environment. Our Vision is by 2022, to divert 2 million lbs. of carbon fiber composites from landfill and achieve a one million lbs. per year recycle run rate. Summary: This posting is for a summer internship position working with the CRTC on the development of process and product technologies that utilize recycled Carbon Fiber (rCF). The primary responsibilities of this paid position will be to support engineering development in the creation of products and materials that consume rCF.
The candidate will be working “hands on” with composites, 3D printing, wood-working, and metal-working machinery in addition to the standard engineering programs: Solidworks, MSExcel, MSWord, and CAM. The successful candidate will assist engineering in the design, development, validation, verification, and fabrication of products or materials utilizing rCF. These duties will require the development of a close working relationship with design engineers and production personnel.
The candidate will be assigned tasks and or projects during their employment, and will be responsible for the execution of the project plan as approved by their mentor and the Director or Engineering. These tasks will include, but are not limited to: conduct engineering design reviews, maintain a lab notebook, write process documentation, create engineering documents, assist Production in the fabrication of parts, and actively participate in team meetings.
The candidate is expected to become an integral part of the CRTC team during the internship, and to participate in all activities necessary to successfully accomplish the CRTC’s mission as directed by their mentor.

Education/Experience:
The candidate must be currently enrolled in a college engineering program, to be considered for the position.
- At least introductory training in a solid modeling system (i.e. Solidworks, ProE, Fusion 360, Rhino, AutoCAD)
- Working knowledge of MSOffice products (MSExcel, MSWord, MSPowerPoint).
- Experience with CAM systems (MasterCAM, Esprit, Vectrix,…etc.) would be considered a plus.
- Micro-controller programing or electronics experience would be considered a plus.

Work Schedule:
- The timing for this role will align to when the student is on summer break and will end when the student returns to college in the Fall, not to exceed 90 days.
- Work hours and days will be flexible as appropriate
- Approximately 40 hours a week
- No promise of future part time or full time employment is made or implied
Compensation:
$14/hour
No benefits will be provided.
