The County Parks and Noxious Weed Summer Employment positions perform varied tasks under the direct supervision of a regular employee to assist the department and assigned division with seasonal needs.

Important Recruitment Information:
Interviews will be held in February, March and April
. This is an ongoing recruitment; positions are filled as applications are received. Once candidates are screened and meet all of the criteria, the department will be contacting them for interviews. Candidates that do not meet the criteria or submit incomplete applications will not be considered. Candidates that submit later in the posting time frame also may not be considered, because this position may already be filled.

Temporary positions are considered “Extra Help” and are typically designated as “seasonal”.

(Participants are assigned to specific temporary work assignments in various divisions of the County Parks and Noxious Weed Departments.) 
Parks Maintenance  (*Driving Required) –   (2 summer positions available)

  • Duties may include: routine grounds maintenance to include; mowing and weed eating, parks restroom cleaning, litter, garbage and vandalism policing and ensuring public safety.
Parks/Fairgrounds  (Driving – not Required) (3 summer positions available)

  • Duties may include: grounds maintenance, athletic field preparation, landscaping, building maintenance and repair, event setup and tear down and janitorial.
Noxious Weed Inspection- (*Driving Required)  (8 summer positions available)

  •  Duties may include: manual labor, proper use of herbicides, light equipment maintenance, plant ID, data collection and record keeping, GPS/Smart phone infestation mapping, communicate rules/regulations/technical information to landowners.
*County Driving Requirements:
The successful incumbent must meet the driving requirements of this position and submit a copy a current driving record/abstract (from state of residency) to review for eligibility to drive for Kitsap County prior to employment.  The successful incumbent must obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License prior to hire and maintain a satisfactory driving record as outlined in the Kitsap County Vehicle Use Policy. These positions are categorized as Category 1: Driver operates County-owned vehicle
QUALIFICATIONS FOR PERFORMANCE OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Required Education and Experience
  • Entry-Level/Trainee positions require no experience .
For driving positions: Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, High School Diploma or GED, and have a valid driver license.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Six (6) months of experience in noxious weed inspection, event set-up, grounds keeping, facility/parks maintenance, athletic fields or turf maintenance.
Required Licenses, Certificates, Examinations/Tests and Other Requirements
Please note: The incumbent is responsible for obtaining and maintaining all of the following required licenses, certifications and other requirements. If selected for a position, students will not be able to begin work unless these certifications are current, no exceptions.
Prior to employment the successful candidate must:
  • Driving positions only: Submit a copy of their State employment driving record abstract to verify their eligibility to drive for Kitsap County.
  • Complete classes/certifications for specific positions.
  • Pass all job-related examinations/tests necessary to demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities, as determined by the hiring authority at time of job posting.
  • Pass a criminal history background check through law enforcement agencies.
  • For specific positions: Pass a medical evaluation that includes a physical, fitness, audio metric testing.

  • Work is performed in a County office or facility or in the field, depending upon position assignment.
  • All positions require clear speaking and hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately both in-person and on the telephone.
  • Potentially hazardous conditions may be present for some positions when traveling to off-site locations or working in roadways or field locations.
  • All positions typically require: reaching, handling/grasping documents or materials, sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, walking short distances, vision sufficient to read source materials or computer screen data and repetitive motions for computer or hand tool use.
  • All positions require exertion of force of 20 pounds occasionally and/or 10 pounds frequently to lift/carry/move objects, files, and other material.
  • Some field positions may require lifting/carrying/moving objects or materials up to 90 pounds.

(Driving Positions ONLY) Driving Standard: This position will be operating a county owned vehicle successful candidates must meet this driving standard to be considered for this position. The standard for operating a county owned vehicle is as follows: • The applicant MUST be 18 years of age and has their driver’s license for at least one year. • The applicants license must be in good standing. (It cannot be suspended or contain restrictions that prohibit or impact the legal ability to operate vehicles or revoked once (or more) in the last three years.) • The applicant’s drivers record in the last three (3) years is clear from the following types of violations: o Reckless driving or similar offense o DUI conviction involving use of alcohol or drugs o Hit-an-run offense involving bodily injury or reportable damage o At-Fault collision (Two or more; or any at-fault collision resulting in a fatality) o All other traffic offenses (except parking violations) three (3) or more (or more than one in last 12 months) Please note: Any major traffic violations not listed in the above will be addressed on a case by case basis and could be a disqualifying factor for driving vehicles on County business
