Evergreen students are invited to join in the 2018 Dragon Boat Festival, which will be held on Saturday, April 28th, 2018. As part of these festivities there will be a fun and spirited dragon boat race at the Port Plaza. This event has been held since 2006 as part of a broader festival that has become a time of celebration for the entire south Puget Sound community.
This year the Evergreen State College has teamed up with the Confucius Institute to have our own Evergreen State College dragon boat team. We are seeking enthusiastic Greeners to participate. It will be an excellent opportunity to promote Evergreen to the broader community, as well as to foster wellness and teamwork within our own community. Evergreen International Programs, the Wellness Committee, and Community Forward are also co-sponsoring this event.
No paddling experience is required. To participate all we ask is that you join in at least one practice before the event itself (a couple of Saturday or Sunday practice sessions will be offered in March and April). If you are interested please let me and Lin Crowley know, and mark your calendars for Feb. 28, in Seminar 2 A1107 between 12:30 and 1:30pm, when we will have an information meeting on campus with the coordinators of the event for Evergreen. You will be notified about the times and locations for practicing together after this meeting. Please spread the word.
Our team will also have an Information booth set up at the event. You are welcome to sign up as a volunteer to staff our information booth on the day of the event, even if you are not paddling. You can sign up for the entire day, or for a shift for a couple of hours each.
For more information about this race please reference the link on the sponsoring Saint Martin’s University website. If you have any questions or would like to learn more about being part of the team, please feel free to contact Lin Crowley, the Evergreen State College’s team’s captain, at crowleyl@evergreen.edu or 360.867.6239.
