The mission of the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Licensing Division is to provide quality services and be an active partner with businesses, communities, and the public participating in or inquiring about commercial and recreational fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing opportunities in Washington State.
The department relies on license sales for nearly one third of its budget. Sales of $50 million/year are transacted through 700 dealers in Washington, Idaho and Oregon, internet and phone sales with over one million customers. The licensing division administers all sales and sales related activities, revenue accounting, customer relations 24/7 customer call centers, business and point of sale systems, tier 1 technical dealer support, dealer retention and recruitment, point of sale training and dealer contract administration and sales collections.
The multi-state dealer program is separated into two categories administrative (e.g. program support and tier 1 systems support and sales/strategic initiatives). The program support function is a coordinator and facilitator between the field and dealers. They will provide document management, point of sale materials, phone/accounting/dealer setup and various other functions in support of the sales and marketing plan for the territory manager.
The Community Outreach & Environmental Education Specialist 1 assists in sales, marketing, and outreach activities by coordinating and organizing events, conducting preliminary research for marketing and outreach activities, and editing and preparing outreach and marketing materials.
Community Outreach & Environment Education Specialist 1Non-Permanent/Part-TimeThe Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is recruiting to fill one part-time, non-permanent Community Outreach and Environmental Education Specialist 1 position located in the Licensing Division. The duty station is the Natural Resource Building located at 1111 Washington St. SE, Olympia, located in Thurston County.This non-permanent position is expected to last for six (6) months.

- Assists with event activities (distribute surveys, facilitating, coordinating activities)
- Assists in conducting analysis of outreach program participation and customer reach
- Coordinates program information with various employees, managers, community leaders and the general public
- Provides technical assistance related to education/outreach programs; researches, develops, updates and distributes educational outreach materials
- Assists supervisor in developing, implementing, and/or overseeing community outreach plans and activities
- Prepares and edits marketing and outreach materials such as brochures, fact sheets, pamphlets, displays and other educational/outreach materials; develops newsletter, identifying new and updated educational and marketing material
- Conducts preliminary research on marketing and outreach activities
- Assists in conducting analysis of marketing and outreach activities
- Assists in developing and implementing marketing programs and promotions
- Makes oral presentations of marketing and outreach activities to various groups such as teachers, students, employees, and the community
- Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, physical, or natural science, education, communications, marketing, business administration, or closely related field; or equivalent education/experience.
- Must have outstanding interpersonal, relationship-building people-skills
- Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of MS Office
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

- Working Conditions
- Working environment is a busy office setting. Varying degrees of activity occur in the common areas during working hours; most tasks will involve sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Incumbent must be able to work amid distraction.
- Duties are typically performed in an office setting from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
- Travel may be required to attend events, workshops, or to meet with external organizations (up to 20%).

Union
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the State of Washington, Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE), which contains a “union security” provision.
