Essential Functions
The Port of Seattle Commission recently approved a motion calling for staff to finalize and implement a new comprehensive strategy to combat human trafficking taking place at and through our facilities, and throughout the region. The strategy is focused on four aspects: 1) internal policy review, 2) staff training, 3) a public awareness campaign and 4) external partnership development. There is a cross-Port team working to implement the strategy currently, and a veterans fellow would have the opportunity to support this work through project management, owning individual work plan items and conducting key research and outreach projects. In particular, the veterans fellow would:
Conduct best practices research on Port and airport trafficking strategies, including direct outreach to peer Ports and airports, online research and other efforts to understand and summarize similar efforts to reduce trafficking that would inform our work.
Participate in outreach to potential Port partners who would add to the impact of our strategy implementation, including developing a list of outreach targets, coordinating with Port staff on communications to those partners and maintaining a tracking list of partnership opportunities and commitments.
Support implementation of a regional anti-trafficking public awareness campaign, by supporting efforts to coordinate with other jurisdictions, and between multiple Port departments and facilities. Support coordination of a public launch and associated media for the start of the campaign.
Help develop materials for strategy implementation committee meetings, track identified work plan items and conduct follow up on assignments.
