Stanford University’s School of Earth Energy & Environmental Sciences is seeking a systems-thinking, pro-active, entrepreneurial Student Services Officer to work hand in hand with the executive director, program director and faculty director of the Change Leadership for Sustainability Program. This dynamic role will involve administering, implementing, and interpreting university and school policies and procedures on issues regarding admissions, financial aid, registrar services, student life, advising, and other academic services for the Sustainability Science and Practice (SSP) co-terminal MS/MA program. This role includes leading administrative and operations matters for the Change Leadership Program. It is a full time position, which will provide 25% student services support for the Earth Systems Program, as well.

Some of the duties you may perform in this position are:

  • Develop & manage processes for the SSP student – info sessions, applications, selection, course plan development and requirements, securing advisors and practicums, etc.
  • Develop materials for students, advisors & other stakeholders
  • Provide advice to students on a range of issues, including career plans, financial aid, accessibility, community standards, etc.
  • Apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities, may award grants
  • Identify academic needs and increase faculty engagement in teaching and advising
  • Identify and evaluate data needs, manage the implementation and development of technology, including developing and managing an online curricular content repository
  • Engage, learn and share with School-wide student services community
  • Provide overall administrative and operations support to the Change Leadership Program, including annual calendar, website, speaker series, events management, professional education programs, faculty meetings, etc.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Collaborate with others to help resolve program issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues.
  • Resolve multi-dimensional matters in response to students in crisis, at risk, or who have other program issues, counsel students and parents on sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Provide advice to students on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc., in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.
  • Apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities, make recommendations and may award grants.
  • May oversee, analyze and assist in financial processes and development of budgets.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements: 

Experience working with Graduate Student Programs, especially interdisciplinary programs; professional education programs, donor/network cultivation and project management strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced customer service skills.
  • Understanding of financial transactions.
  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
