The Bonneville Power Administration, along with its partners at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation that comprise the River Management Joint Operating Committee, commissioned a climate change research project in 2013 with the University of Washington and Oregon State University.
This study, principally funded by BPA, advances the state-of-the-science in hydroclimate prediction, taking into account ongoing and expected climate change across the region. In September 2017, the streamflow dataset from this project was published, and is available for download at: http://hydro.washington.edu/CRCC.
Erik Pytlak will describe the genesis and implementation of this extensive modeling project, and how this information will be used for management of the Columbia River Federal Power System and the Columbia River Treaty negotiations.
Bart Nijssen and Oriana Chegwidden will present the technical work that linked global climate models to regional hydrologic models and predicted future hydrology for a hypothetical “no regulation/no irrigation” scenario.
