Curriculum Specialist/Educator

We are looking for a Curriculum Specialist/Educator to join our vibrant team for the 2018-2019 school year. This person will have a solid understanding of and background in revision and development of environmental education curriculum to support the WA State K-12 Learning Standards. They will lead grant funded revisions of our existing programming and creation of curriculum modules based on existing programs. The position will also involve teaching environmental education programs in the classroom and at field sites. Work will be approximately 60% curriculum work and 40% teaching from Sept-Jan, then teaching time will increase and curriculum work will decrease as classroom pilot phase begins.

All members of the Nature Vision team must demonstrate a high level of creativity, thoughtfulness, and flexibility in their positions. Our curriculum reaches many diverse students in our region and the Curriculum Specialist/Educator will have a keen eye for developing culturally responsive curriculum that can be the most relevant to all students.

Position description
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Revision of Nature Vision curriculum to support WA State K-12 Learning Standards with STEM education as a central focus.
  • Creation of curriculum modules including pre/post and extension activities.  Curriculum modules will be comprised of existing Nature Vision programming and new curriculum created by the specialist.
  • Assisting NV staff with creation of Citizen Science pilot curriculum.
  • Presenting environmental education outreach programs to schools and other groups from the Nature Vision menu of programs.
  • Program delivery and outreach within King and nearby Snohomish County to reach schools and other sites registered for programs.
  • Coordination and facilitation of stewardship and citizen science teams as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary: $20 per hour, full-time 40 hours/week. 8 paid holidays (set), vacation time accrued at 1.54 hours for every 40 hours worked, and sick time accrued at 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. Mileage paid at Federal rates for travel to school program sites.

Start/End Date: 9/17/18-6/14/19.  This position is grant funded for the 2018-2019 school year.  Position may continue after this time based on available funding and may also be able to shift into other available roles at Nature Vision.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and experience in education, interpretation, science, or related field required. Combination of education and experience in creating high quality, standard supportive environmental education curriculum. Experience teaching in classrooms and in the field with students.  Master’s degree in Education or a related field preferred.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Washington State Drivers’ License and own insurance-covered vehicle. Must be capable of lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
