This position is located at Marais des Cygnes Wildlife Area near Pleasanton, KS (50 miles south of Overland Park, KS).

Responsibilities of this position will include participating in all aspects of wildlife and habitat management of 7,600-acre Marais des Cygnes Wildlife Area and 4,600-acre La Cygne Lake and Wildlife Area. Incumbent will gain experience in intensively managed wetlands and bottomland hardwood forests. Position will require considerable contact with the public including hunters and anglers. Tasks include: water level manipulation, wetland management, operation of water pumps, prescribed burning, tree removal with chainsaw, operation of tractors and agricultural implements (disking, mowing, planting food crops, etc.), operation of skid loader with stump grinder and/or forestry cutter, timber stand improvement, litter removal, control of noxious weeds and other undesired vegetation, sign maintenance, etc.

This is a seasonal position, 40 hrs/wk.

 

BENEFITS: $10.15/hr to $13.61/hr depending on experience and skills. Low-cost housing may be available.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Completed or enrolled in wildlife, fisheries, or other natural resource-related course of study preferred, but not required. Interest in, and knowledge of farming, construction, waterfowl, wetlands, and/or bottomland hardwood forests will be considered in candidate selection. Must be physically fit and able to perform demanding tasks in a variety of outdoor conditions. Must have a valid driver license.
