DESCRIPTION | Facilitate learning, caring and discovery through engaging, inclusive, and culturally responsive programs, activities and interactions with diverse audiences and communities. Foster relationships with community organizations and work with partners to tailor and co-create programs and curriculum to support shared values and outcomes. Strong candidates will enjoy and value working with people of all ages, cultures and abilities. Familiarity with diversity and inclusion principles, universal design practices, and speaking a language in addition to English are all highly valued.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE A minimum of two years combined education and experience developing and facilitating engaging, inclusive experiences for a variety of audiences; developing curriculum; and implementing and evaluating programs. Experience with a zoo, aquarium, museum, early childhood center, park or other informal education organization preferred. COMPUTER SKILLS Proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications; particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Must be able to work with customized databases and technology, and conduct Internet research. CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS Must be enthusiastic and customer service oriented and deal with guests in a courteous and professional manner. Enjoy working with the public including diverse populations and people of all ages and abilities. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write curriculum, routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to a variety of audiences including young children, families, adults and before groups of zoo employees. The ability to speak another language in addition to English is highly valued. MATHEMATICAL ABILITY Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds while handling, lifting, and storing program supplies, kits, and bulk food supplies. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while setting up displays, transporting class props and materials.
