Job Description:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach outreach programs for local schools, grades pre-K through 8
- Teach field trips for local school students, grades pre-K through 8
- Develop and teach public programs for visitors
- Provide guided interpretation during Outpost Tours for the general public and group tours
- Plan, develop and teach student summer camps
- Select, assemble, and ensure that materials to be used for education purposes are prepared and ready for school outreach programs, public programs, summer camps, etc.
- Assist with the training and supervision of volunteers, interns, summer youth volunteers, and part-time educators; inform volunteers, interns, summer student volunteers, and part-time educators of policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service
- Make presentations to community and professional organizations concerning Nature Center programs and activities
- Assist with planning and implementation of annual events, such as Eco-Fest, Autumn Fair, Community Trash-Off, and more
- Perform Manager-On-Duty (MOD) responsibilities one weekend approximately every six weeks
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required in environmental education, education with emphasis on science, or environmental science, or similar. Master’s degree in education (or be obtained within 6 months) or teacher certification required
- 2 – 3 years’ experience teaching outdoor, hands-on science
- Priority will be given to those with outdoor, hands-on curriculum development experience
- Prior outreach education experience ideal
REQUIREMENTS:
- Certification in First Aid and CPR valid through May 31, 2019 (must obtain within 60 days)
- Working knowledge of MS office programs on a PC (not a Mac)
- Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills
- Criminal background check and drug screening required before employment
Job type: Full-time permanent
Salary Detail: $33,000- $36,000 DOE
