Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa is hiring 7 AmeriCorps Field Specialists (ages 18-25) positions based throughout Minnesota with the Corps and other host agencies. Field Specialists provide training, education, coordination and leadership to ensure a positive and safe experience for Regional AmeriCorps members. Primary responsibilities include: fostering AmeriCorps member development through experiential learning, providing technical skills training, monitoring field safety and conducting equipment maintenance.

JOB DETAILS:

— Location: Saint Paul, MN

— AmeriCorps service position (ages 18-25 preferred)

— Term: January 8-December 13, 2019

— Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday – Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (typical)

— Stipend: $1990/mo

— Education award: $5920 upon successful completion of term

Locations (Minnesota) and Job Descriptions: This is not a residential program; participants must secure housing near the crew shop location. Lodging (tents in mild temperatures or motels in winter) and food will only be provided during out-of-town service projects. Depending on crew location, up to 90% of projects will be out-of-town assignments, requiring camping for 4 to 12 consecutive days, or up to 31 days for disaster relief deployment.

— New Ulm (based with the Minnesota DNR)

QUALIFICATIONS:

— Working knowledge of conservation project management from a variety of disciplines.

— Experience with hand and power tools, tree felling and chainsaw operations, construction and mechanical skills, prescribed burning and wildland firefighting.

— Previous experience in a leadership role, including coordinating and implementing trainings.

— Effective communication skills.

REQUIREMENTS:

— Current First Aid/CPR certificate.

— Valid driver’s license and safe driving record (no major moving violations or DUIs in the past five years).

— Flexible schedule to accommodate week-long out-of-town projects and emergency response.

— Ability to perform the Essential Service Functions 40 hours per week, including long (10 hr) days of physically demanding outdoor work.

— Full term of service must be completed in order to receive the education award.
