The Regional Water Authority is seeking a Chemist and a Quality Assurance and Control Officer to work in a fast paced production drinking water laboratory.
Chemist
Job responsibilities include conducting a wide variety of analyses in accordance with EPA protocols to determine compliance of the drinking water with State and Federal regulations; provide accurate and prompt results for all chemical analysis; troubleshooting and maintaining existing analytical methods; providing training for new staff; working with the Laboratory Manager on the development and/or implementation of new analytical methods and instrumentation in response to RWA needs; maintaining documentation of all quality control analyses on various software programs and writing and reviewing standard operating procedures.
Our organization is looking for a motivated individual who is comfortable in a laboratory setting, has the ability to work independently, can schedule work flow to meet critical deadline commitments and has knowledge of general laboratory procedures. Candidates should be detail oriented and possess excellent multi-tasking skills and should be skilled in operating, calibrating, and maintaining a variety of manual and automated laboratory instruments. The candidate must have GC and GC/MS experience. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related field is required. This is a full-time, first shift, Monday-Friday position.
Quality Assurance and Control Officer
The Regional Water Authority is seeking a Quality Assurance and Control Officer to work in a fast-paced production drinking water laboratory. Job responsibilities include providing technical support for all matters related to the laboratory quality control and assurance programs and the laboratory information management system (LIMS); reviewing all quality controls generated by the methods used in the laboratory; staying current with all LIMS information and various laboratory quality assurance/control programs developed by the state and federal governments; and coordinating and supporting field and laboratory quality assurance and control programs.
Key competencies include: providing support to laboratory staff with issues related to quality assurance/control programs implemented; maintaining the quality assurance/control programs to ensure that all data produced by the laboratory meets quality control requirements; establishing and monitoring adherence to all aspects of the quality/control programs; conducting internal and external audits and providing detailed reports to management; maintaining all quality assurance/control documentation for the lab, including standard operating procedures, training records, and audit results; developing and/or implementing the use of quality assurance/control requirements in response to RWA’s needs; making recommendations for correction and improvement as it pertains to quality assurance and quality control; reviewing USEPA, WP/WS Performance Evaluation Studies for maintenance of laboratory certification; training and supporting end-users of LIMS and providing support for any issues that arise from LIMS; identifying and implementing custom configurations of LIMS reports needed to support project-specific needs; performing archival activities and on-going maintenance of LIMS; reviewing all standard operating procedures provided by laboratory staff; performing duties of project manager in the absence of the Laboratory Manager; and handling negations with vendors on consumable products.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a related field and at least three years’ experience in a drinking water or an environmental testing laboratory, including hands-on experience in the area of chemistry and microbiology, is required for this position. The candidate must be highly skilled in utilizing computers and standard software packages, and in critically evaluating and validating analytical methodology and data. Extensive experience with LIMS and the ability to clearly present technical information and ideas, both orally and in writing, as it applies to the quality control and quality assurance programs is required.
