Summary

The University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension and Hillsborough County invite qualified individuals to apply for the Hillsborough County Community and Economic Development Field Specialist position based in Goffstown, New Hampshire. The Field Specialist will provide educational outreach, technical assistance, community planning, and project implementation support that builds community and regional leaders’ capacity to implement effective strategies grow and sustain the economy and strengthen communities. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, economic development, Main Street/downtown development, business retention and expansion, regional collaboration, and stakeholder engagement to enhance implementation of community plans and projects. This is a full-time, benefited position. Anticipated start date is January 2019.

Acceptable minimum level of education: Master’s

Acceptable minimum years of experience: 2 years

Other minimum qualifications:

Master’s degree in a field such as community/economic development, regional planning, tourism, or related disciplines. A strong candidate with a B.S. level degree in relevant discipline with experience may be considered if they are willing to obtain a Master’s degree within 7 years of hire.
• Knowledge of effective community and economic development strategies and approaches.
• Experience working with community/regional leaders on community development,economic development, and/or planning efforts.
• Demonstrated ability to convene stakeholders and facilitate community,organizational, or regional planning processes.
• Demonstrated ability to convey basic community and economic development principles—and data—to the general public, community practitioners, business audiences, and local government officials.
• Ability to teach and communicate ideas effectively verbally, in writing, and through educational technology.
• Ability to work productively with indirect supervision.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others; ability to take personal responsibility to help team efforts succeed.
• Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills in a team setting; ability to effectively manage conflict.
• Demonstrated willingness to learn on an ongoing basis.
• Ability to adapt to changing programming and workplace priorities.

Job Duties

Technical Assistance: Contribute to community and economic development efforts in Hillsborough County and the region by providing facilitation, technical assistance, and guidance on project implementation.

Regional Economic Development Programs: Engage Extension State Specialists and other UNH resources to support community and economic development efforts in the region, as well as implement programs like Community Profiles, Business Retention & Engagement, and Take Charge of Your Local Economy

Training: Provide training to community and economic development practitioners—and civic leaders—so they have the skills to implement effective economic development strategies.

Tools and Resources: Develop tools and resources—including data—that support decision-making by community and regional decision-makers.

Plan Implementation Support: Support community and regional groups in developing and implementing plans around topics such as downtown revitalization, natural resource-based economic development, and business and entrepreneurship development.

Program Planning: Participate in program planning with the Community and Economic Development Program Team and Economic Development Area of Expertise (AoE).

Evaluation and Impact Reporting: Provide timely data for UNH Cooperative Extension’s reporting system for documenting and evaluating program outcomes. Keep accurate, complete and timely work records and reports.

Staff Meetings and Other Administrative: Participate in staff meetings – including program team meetings, county staff meetings, and county advisory council meetings – as well as other program activities as appropriate.
