About You
You’re an independent, self-motivated, and objective thinker who doesn’t need a lot of supervision to get the job done. You have a keen eye for identifying potential issues, and you like to work as part of a team to create solutions. You’re looking for a position where you can work both in an office and in the field. You’re not afraid to research solutions when you don’t know the answer. Training comes naturally to you, and you enjoy sharing your knowledge and know-how with others.
The Environmental Director oversees US Ecology’s Environmental Regulatory Compliance programs. This person will work closely with internal and external resources, including regulatory agencies, to obtain and maintain permits, resolve inspections and meet the facility regulatory obligations.
Day in the Life
After booting up your computer and grabbing your favorite morning beverage, you can expect to:
Review new and proposed federal and state rulemaking
Provide regulatory interpretation guidance to operations
Develop compliance solutions in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
Partner with operations management to develop environmental regulatory solutions for achieving business and compliance goals
Support regulatory needs of customer focused programs
Direct and monitor interaction with regulatory agencies related to permit activity, enforcement actions and strategic initiatives
Maintain permits and prepare permit applications and modifications
Provide targeted environmental training and consultations
Monitor environmental inspections, enforcement and permitting across the company
Provide reports to executive management on program performance
Support corporate business development activities by conducting environmental due diligence of potential acquisitions and business ventures
What you need to apply
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, biology or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
10 or more years’ experience
Comprehensive knowledge of EPA (RCRA, CAA & CWA)
Familiar with OSHA, DOT, DEA regulations, and ISO programs
Extensive knowledge of complex regulations specific to the environmental waste industry
Expert level knowledge and understanding of current hazardous waste treatment storage and disposal facility (TSDF) and field and industrial services practices
Thorough understanding of regulatory rulemaking and an ability to research background documents to fully understand the intent of the regulations
