Sanctuary: Broad Meadow Brook

 

We are seeking enthusiastic teacher naturalists (TN) to join the team at Broad Meadow Brook. TN’s conduct programs for a variety of ages from preschool to high school to adults. Candidates should be comfortable leading and teaching groups in an outdoors setting in all manner of weather – including rain, wind and snow. This is a very part-time position. TN’s only work when they pick up programs that work for their schedule. Programs are typically conducted during the school day, however there are also opportunities for some afternoon and weekend programs.

 

Responsibilities

Teach educational programs to youth, adults and families, with an emphasis on school aged programs.

Attend monthly sanctuary teacher naturalist staff meetings

Provides a physically and emotionally safe environment for children both indoor and outdoor settings

Help support a curriculum that reflects the needs of the children and the mission of Mass Audubon, including using the outdoor setting whenever possible.

We teach in all weather. You must be comfortable and prepared to lead programs in all weather including rain, snow, heat and cold.

 

Qualifications

Must have a diverse nature background.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work cooperatively and independently.

Demonstrated ability to promote and respect diversity of ethnic, cultural, linguistic backgrounds and, physical and mental disabilities.

Commitment to helping others develop an understanding of and concern for the environment and people’s relationship to it.

Able to move around on uneven surfaces.

Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Must pass a background records check (CORI and SORI).

 

Compensation and Benefits

$11- $14 per hour

 

Additional Comments

This is a part time position with fluctuating, inconsistent hours.
