The Seattle Ethics and Elections Commission (SEEC) is seeking a college student, preferably a junior, senior or graduate, an adaptable and self-motivated intern interested in engaging young adults including university/college students, high school students, and underserved communities to participate in the City of Seattle’s Democracy Voucher program. The intern will assist in developing outreach and media plans. The intern will also conduct outreach to Seattle residents about how they can participate in the Democracy Voucher program to strengthen the political voices of Seattle communities.

SEEC staff and interns are prohibited from participating in or contributing to campaigns for local, state, or federal office.

Educational Benefit to Student:

 Job Responsibilities:
  • Outreach and Communications:
    • Assist in developing a creative community engagement plan.
    • Attend outreach events and conduct presentations.
    • Assist in designing media campaigns,  key messages, and developing a social media engagement calendar.
  • Administrative:
    • Processing Democracy Vouchers and other administrative tasks.
    • Responding to resident inquiries.
 Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Open to all students, undergraduate and graduate students, who are enrolled in an accredited educational program preferably majoring in: Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or Public Policy.

Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship.

Graduate students will need to maintain a 3.0 GPA or above throughout the internship.

Experience: 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite programs such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Familiarity working with Seattle communities.
  • Comfortable presenting one-on-one and to small groups.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm for the program’s purpose.
  • Curiosity to learn and positive approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience with professional social media marketing.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
  • Language skills.
 Additional Information:
Start/End Dates:  Intern will start  in early to mid January, 2019 and end June, 2019.

Schedule:  Intern will work 20 hours/week with the option of 40 hours/week when class is not in session.  Hours may include evenings and weekends.

Salary:  Undergraduates will be paid $16.56/hour. Graduates will be paid $20.30/hour.
