The Seattle Parks and Recreation is seeking a college intern, ideally a junior or senior, to work with the staff of Leaders in Equity, Environment and Facilitation (LEEF) and Outdoor Opportunities (O2) programs to recruit youth, develop and deliver programs, and has the opportunity to train to become a WSU 4H challenge Course facilitator on the low course.

Educational Benefit to Intern:
Learn how to market to and recruit participants, learn to lead team building activities, public speaking, design and implementation of workshops.

 Job Responsibilities:
  • Recruitment:  Outreach at local high schools and colleges with applications and marketing materials for our programs.  Outreach to community leaders and other youth development organizations.
  • Assist with workshops and trainings for teens and young adults.
  • Challenge and Adventure Education training to implement activities and programs for teens.
 Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Open to all undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year educational program preferably studying:  Recreation, Hospitality, Tourism, business, Physical Education, Eco-Tourism, Environmental Education, Youth Development, Child Development, Psychology or Education.
  • Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship.

Experience:

  • Requires at least 3 months experience in an outdoor recreation/environmental education program.
  • Current State of Washington State driver’s license.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.  A CPR certificate will be required within 2 months of hire.

Desired Qualifications:

  • WSU 4H Certified Facilitator for Portable and Low Challenge Course.
  • Knowledge of the Challenge and Experiential Educational Programs.
  • Outdoor Opportunities or LEEF graduate.
  • Ability to speak another language like:  Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Chinese.
 Additional Information:
Start/End Dates:  Intern will start in November, 2018 and end on June 5, 2019.

Schedule:  Intern will work 15-20 hours/week.  Work hours can be scheduled between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Some weekend or evenings may be worked.

Salary:  Undergraduates will be paid $16.56/hour.
