Subject: Foreign exchange “student aid” to the Sammamish River

Message: On Saturday, November 17 between 10 am and 1 pm, twenty Cascadia College foreign exchange students are teaming up with the Adopt A Stream Foundation to plant trees and shrubs on the banks of the Sammamish River where it flows into Lake Washington. The meeting spot is at the Wildcliffe Shores condos, 7238 NE 171st Lane, Kenmore, WA 98028. Everyone who is interested in helping out the river is invited to attend and plant some trees.

“We have 900 hundred trees and shrubs to get in the ground,” says Adopt A Stream Foundation Ecologist Kyle Koch. “Volunteers, young and old, are invited to stop by, plant some trees, and meet some young people from around the world.” Gloves and planting tools are provided as well as snacks to keep everyone’s energy up. Be sure to dress for the weather and wear waterproof footwear.

The end result of this effort will be a new 2.5-acre forest along 900-feet of the south bank of the Sammamish River. Over time, shade from this new forest will help keep the river water cool; and cool water holds oxygen that salmon need to thrive. This event is sponsored by a grant from the Rose Foundation and a King County WaterWorks Grant.
