The Sustainability Manager leads the development and execution of a campus-wide strategic sustainability initiative, integrating sustainability throughout the campus. This position ensures that the College’s sustainability efforts enhance and support the long-term interests of the College. The Associate Director works closely with relevant stakeholders including staff, faculty, students, alums, and outside constituents to promote, engage, and improve sustainability initiatives throughout the Babson community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct college-wide sustainability efforts. Responsible for developing and implementing campus-wide sustainability programs by coordinating academic, research, operations, and student sustainability activities that align with the College’s commitment to sustainability.
  • Create short and long-term strategic plans to integrate sustainability principles into the operational functions of the institution, works with relevant stakeholders to implement approved projects and plans, and analyzes effectiveness and results of projects. Collaborate with campus departments to develop a coordinated strategy for implementing college-wide sustainability plan and for incorporating sustainability principles into department operations.
  • Lead a comprehensive review of the college’s sustainability and climate action plan to align the plan with current mission and operating principles.
  • Evaluate energy, water, and waste data to determine potential savings and provide cost/benefit analysis of operating and capital spending in support of efficiency projects. Research new initiatives and track progress.
  • Publicize, promote, and communicate the College’s sustainability efforts within and outside of the campus community in an effort to share best practices. Maintain a sustainability web page and determine other appropriate communications avenues to provide the internal and external communities with regular updates regarding Babson’s sustainability initiatives.
  • Serve as the central point of contact for external groups and vendors such as Wellesley Sustainable Energy Committee.
  • Develop and promote a culture of conservation on campus among students, faculty, and staff to achieve reductions in energy usage, solid waste disposal, and water consumption.
  • Manage student engagement, including supporting student projects and learning initiatives and events and programs aimed at increasing student participation in sustainability initiatives.
  • Oversee campus electric vehicle charging program and charging station operation.
  • Provide support for LEED certification on capital projects.
  • Monitor and track progress on sustainability efforts using STARS and other appropriate measures.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Education Requirements:

Minimum Level of Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in related field required

Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:

  • At least 5 – 7 years of experience, with 3-5 years of experience working in a sustainability role in higher education.
  • Knowledge of environmental issues and strategies.
  • Demonstrated strategic, pragmatic, and analytical problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, work with students, and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience with greenhouse gas emissions tracking and reporting tools.
  • Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

Additional Experience, Skill & Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in related field preferred.

Renewable energy project experience a plus.
