Let’s go! 100% Clean Energy for WA
From Joelle Robinson
Climate Solutions Field Director
So many of you worked so very hard on Initiative 1631, and we are so grateful. Together we did extraordinary work in the spirit of clean air, clean energy, and climate justice. Big Oil bullied their way, but we won’t let them have the last word.
We’re going to pass a bill calling for 100% clean energy in the 2019 legislative session. But in order to do that, we need YOU.
The 2019 legislative session is just around the corner and we all know that we need to accelerate the pace of climate action in Washington.
We saw it happen this November and we’ve seen it before in Olympia: fossil fuel companies and their allies will try to stop meaningful climate action. We must make sure our voices, collectively, are stronger and clearer to get the big, bold solutions we know are urgently needed to accelerate progress to a clean energy future in time.
That’s why we’re getting started even before the legislative session starts.
Climate Solutions and our partners in the Environmental Priorities Coalition and beyond are hosting a Kickoff Meeting to launch our official effort to pass 100% Clean Energy legislation for Washington State. The Kickoff Meeting will take place this Saturday, December 8th, at 2 pm at Tacoma First United Methodist Church.
At this meeting, you’ll hear from community leaders like Tacoma City Council member, Ryan Mello and legislators like prime house sponsor, Gael Tarelton who are championing efforts to move Washington State off of fossil fuels, create a new clean energy economy, and create more momentum and a model for positive change across the country. You’ll also have the opportunity to gain valuable skills that will make you a stronger advocate for climate in Olympia and in your community.
Space for this event is limited so please be sure to RSVP as soon as possible.
The fossil fuel industry spent a record $31.5 million to defeat the Clean Air, Clean Energy ballot initiative, and you can be sure that their lobbyists will be in Olympia in force. It’s up to us to lead the way to our clean energy future.
Join us December 8th at Tacoma United Methodist Church at 2 pm. Together we can make clean energy action happen. You are needed to make sure legislators hear the call and feel the demand for strong action on climate.
We’ll see you in Tacoma. Sign up today! Self organizing carpool link is here.
We are more powerful in numbers. Can you invite three of your friends to join us on December 8th? And please spread the word on Facebook!
