What you will do!
You will work at Tryon Creek State Natural Area in Portland, Oregon.  This recruitment is for one, full-time, permanent position and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.  This is a Management Service position that exercises supervisory authority over assigned staff.

The successful applicant will be required to live on site, in the Tryon Creek residence, as a condition of employment.

As a Park Manager 1, you will manage the maintenance and operations tasks, interpretation and recreation programs, resource protection work and administrative requirements through short range planning and by the direct supervision of paid permanent, seasonal and volunteer staff who carry out operational functions within the management unit.

Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of lead work experience in park operations and maintenance.
– OR –
An Associate’s degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies and 6 months of lead work experience in park operations and maintenance.

NOTE: A higher level degree may substitute for the Associate’s degree. There is no substitute for the 6 months experience.

Desired Attributes:

  • Skill in determining the methods, means and personnel by which park operations are to be conducted.
  • Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with a diverse group of people, including volunteers and a large number of partner organizations.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with the general public, media, agency and local government officials.
  • Skill in evaluating the quality and quantity of park maintenance and operations work performed by direct report personnel.
  • Skill in preparing and tracking budgets and operating within budgetary limits.
  • Skill in interpretation and environmental education.
  • Experience running a Nature Center.
  • Skill in ecological restoration.

Special Requirements:

  • Have a criminal history check and driving record check that meets OPRD criteria (Download PDF reader) at the time of hire and throughout employment.
  • Must wear OPRD supplied uniform and comply with appearance code while on duty.
  • Obtain and maintain one or more of the following after appointment:
    • First Aid/CPR Certification
    • OPRD Enforcement Officer Status
    • Oregon Commercial Driver’s License
    • Oregon Pesticide Applicators License
    • Oregon Water Treatment and Distribution Certificate
    • Oregon Wastewater Treatment & Collection Certificate
