We have an exciting opportunity for a Public Education Program Specialist to join our team at the Cedar River Watershed Education Center. We are seeking a passionate individual who enjoys working as part of a dynamic team to play a vital role in educating the public about the source of Seattle’s drinking water. As a member of this team, you will collaborate and partner with key stakeholders to develop and deliver a robust curriculum that engages diverse customers.

The successful candidate will work with a team to deliver education programs about the natural and cultural history of Seattle’s watersheds. They will manage programs independently, contribute to the creation of promotional and educational material and help with general operations of the Education Center. The Public Education Program Specialist needs to be able to juggle many responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. It is crucial for the successful candidate to have the ability to connect with a diverse audience, including race, age, religion, sexual orientation, culture and socioeconomic status.

This is a part-time position with hours ranging from 20 to 27 hours per week, depending on the time of year. The schedule will change slightly between seasons in order to meet the needs of our education programs. Although the position is part-time, the successful candidate will be eligible to receive full medical, dental, and vision benefits.Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, develop, implement, deliver and evaluate public education programs
  • Develop promotional and informational programs and materials
  • Serve as a liaison with schools, community centers and other groups and organizations
  • Review, evaluate, recommend and/or select various educational materials such as audio and visual aids and hands-on models for educational programs
  • Prepare or oversee preparation of educational material such as brochures, handouts, slide shows, exhibits and similar materials for educational programs
  • Plan and implement promotional activities in support of educational programs such as production of advertising, press releases, newsletters, special mailings and other promotional materials
  • Staff information desk and sales area
  • Take lead responsibility for special programs and projects
  • Monitor program goals and objectives
  • Provide education and outreach in public recreation areas
  • Participate in the selection and evaluation of public education consultants
  • Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Required to lift objects weighing 50 pounds or less
  • Required to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Must be able to work on Saturdays every one (1) to two (2) weeks, depending on the season.

Qualifications

Experience:  One (1) year experience in planning and delivering of public education programs, classes or presentation

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree in English, Education, Communication or a related field. Candidates with a combination of education and/or training and/or experience that provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of this position will be viewed as meeting the experience and education qualifications.

License: Current Washington State Driver ‘s license.
